Pull quotes are often used to draw interest into the article. The use of a larger font size emphasises specific areas of the article which the writer believes are the most important or attention grabbing. By using phrases which are open and could be about anything, ensures that readers will become intrigued as to why it was said. Also by placing pull quotes away from where it is placed in the article, makes it more likely that the reader will read the whole article. This is typical of magazines as the technique ensures that main articles are more widely read further leading to higher sales.

The Title 'Insomnia' and font of the magazine relate to the music genre of the magazine directly. The name 'Insomnia' means being unable to sleep, essentially meaning they stay up all night. My target audience is 'Clubbers' who also stay up until the early hours of the morning. The font of the title is relevant because it looks techno, which relates to the music and the technology they use. Finally the colour of the title relates to the genre as they imitate the colour of the UV lighting often used in clubs to create the specific atmosphere. Most music magazines use the technique of creating a magazine which looks like the genre
The front cover image of two people imitate the style of people who are my target audience. Very posed, unnatural and professional. This will draw the attention of the potential reader as they to imitate the pictures in reality. The pink/blue tone to the picture imitates the colours they see when out clubbing and also those seen on the covers of the specific genre's CDs. Colour is often used in magazines to distinguish between genres, making it easier for audiences to scope out their specific style of magazine.
The main prop used in the magaizne was a pair of headphones, this is typical of this specific genre of magazine as the target audience often go to clubs where music is mixed on DJ decks. This will also help the audience directly relate to the genre of magazine. The costumes which the models are wearing are specific to the style of music as they are what is recently being worn, the style is up to date with the current fashions of the target audience. This will also draw attention of readers as they can relate to the image and are also able to see that it is in style. The use of a Features column in the contents page enables the reader to understand that alongside the specific articles for the issue, there are also areas that are repeated throughout each issue printed. Showing that there is some consistency with the magazine. This also ensures that specific articles will be there, meaning the reader will be more likely to continuosly read the magazine. This is popular in music magazines as it enables them to emphasise the specific articles for this issue. Making them seem more interesting.
The mise-en-scene of my contents page picture is relevant to the magazine as the issue has articles based around where to go for the best clubbing holidays, and where the big artists are playing sets. The picture is of a model swimming under water, it is showing the fun she is having on holiday. It is isn't a posed picture, it is more a picture taken by chance. The mise-en-scene is important as different settings make people feel different emotions, as this is of someone enjoying themselves in a pool, it is more than likely to make the reader feel happy when looking at it, further making them want to continue to read on.
The use of a Tour dates box, enables people to gather valuable information on the artist. It also gives the readers reasons to read the magazine again. As they can gain more information on other artists published in following issues. Also it is very hard to find real tour dates for artists especially those who don't have internet access. This technique is often used in music magazines as people are impressed with the help the magazine is giving them in finding ways of seeing the desired artist.
The title font used is continuos throughout all peices and is specific as it is techno looking and fits in with the genre of music my magazine is based on. The colour's of the title are relevant as they are bright and
colourful, meaning that not only do they draw attraction but also immitate the colours of clothing they often wear out. The size of the writing is a large size so that people are less likely to other look the magazine as it is more in your face and loud. The font of the actual articles is different to the main font (title). It is more formal, but easy to read, it makes the magazine look more respectable and serious. Also as the writing is easy to read, it appears to be more approachable, meaning the potential reader is more likely to purchase the magazine. The articles are also more likely to be read and will gain the interest of the audience.

This is very good but you need to add to it with some reaaly specific discussion of particular conventions from magazine design (kickers, drop caps, end signs, mastheads etc). Exploring these will make this more thorough and show that you know the terminology.
