Initial Music Magazine Ideas

The working title of my magazine is Insomnia. I chose this as I believe the meaning of the word has some relation to the psychographics of my target audience. The meaning of the word ‘Insomnia’ is a person who has difficulty sleeping. This relates as people who go clubbing tend to be awake either all night or till the very early hours of the morning. I also think the word is loud and shouts out to people making it easier to draw peoples attention.
The audience I am aiming to target is mainly female, however it may also appeal to male audiences. I chose to target females as there appears to be a niche in the market. I am also targeting people aged 18-25 in the category ABC1. I believe this will also help with advertising as there is a wide range of products people within the age group and ABC1 category purchase. My target audience are known as ‘Clubbers’ the main psychographic profiling of clubbers is that, they listen to club anthems and favour albums such as ‘ministry of sound’ and ‘clubland’. They are also interested in speaker systems and DJ decks. They spend a majority of their money on going out, buying clothes, music/vinyl and also on alcoholic drinks (again attracting advertisers).

I think the magazine will benefit more from being a monthly magazine as the main topics that will be included will only need to be assessed monthly, and to have it weekly or fortnightly may make the content very repetitive, making it less appealing and leading to a loss of interest. The price point I have set for the magazine is £3.30 I chose this price because I believe it is not too high and not too low, meaning people will be more likely to buy it. As the audience tend to spend the majority of their money on clothes, music etc, the main profit the magazine makes will be based on advertisement sales.
The main content the magazine will include will be along the lines of:

Listing of best clubs to go to in the UK
Up and coming new clubs and artists/DJs
Top DJs of 2009
Top songs in the month
New fashions
Interviews with artists
How to use different types of equipment( DJ decks etc)

The style of my magazine will be very bright and loud, including colours such as Electric Blues, Pinks and bright Greens. These will imitate UV lighting almost immediately showing who the target audience for the magazine is. The fonts used will be of a techno style again making the target audience clear. There will also be many images of club scenes and clubbers.
As at this moment in time there doesn’t appear to be any mainstream clubbing magazines targeting a more female audience, I thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to create something different. The main clubbing magazine named ‘DJ’ mainly targets men boasting a 96% male audience, and containing products wanted by males. This gives further reason to create a female, clubbing magazine.
