Magazine Cover-COLLEGE
I decided to design my magazine cover in a more fun and artistic style. I used colour's which were eye catching and bright to draw attention to the magazine and essentially make more people seem interested in the content. To find the specific content to use as headlines i used the questionnaire that we did as a class and picked the most popular topics of discussion. I also took advantage of the current college party having taken place only a few days/weeks ago. I used pictures i had taken on the night on the front cover to create further interest in the magazine. As it was the start of term i believed this would gain the interest of many first years as they may have not experienced a party of this kind before. The main image used on the cover of my magazine is of two colleagues hanging from a metal bar in a basketball court opposite the college. I managed to capture the enjoyment they were having whilst taking part allowing my magazine cover to convey a fun, energetic atmosphere. This would further create the idea of the magazine being just like the front cover, loud, outspoken, fun and entertaining. The colours i used contrasted with each other as i used bright blues, yellows and reds. I used this colours as when i adjusted my images contrast they matched and complimented one another. This drew further attention to the cover as it was bright and unusual. This also contrasts with the title of my magazine 'completely frank'. As the name suggests a very serious magazine, for mature individuals. However when you compare the name to the images, you are able to see that it is a complete opposite to the content, i believe this adds mystery to the magazine, giving further reason for people to want to pick it up. The main purpose of the magazine cover is to draw attention and look interesting, i believe i have captured this in my cover, as i have used many colours that are bright and inviting, i believe my images are inviting as they all include people enjoying themselves and taking part in activities included in college life, and also just enjoying the freedom to be able to do what you feel, to a certain extent. I think my magazine cover promotes the idea of freedom as it involves students using child play equipment, which would normally be seen as odd, this could furtherb promote the idea of individuality.
As aresult of taking part in the preliminary task, i have been able to learn how to use font styles to an advantage, and how specific colours and layouts effect a persons view of a magazine. I have learnt that by using persuasive language you are able to draw in a wider audience. Also i have learnt that by doing a questionairre, you are able to find what the majority of your target audience are interested in. I also learnt techniques such as adding a drop shadow to a serious of pictures will allow them to look 3D and individual.
